Deep Into Winter

Deep into Winter I tumble sideways Greeting morning light Like a hand rolled, twisted cigarette waiting for that spark A lively crackle a wispy thread of blue white smoke drifting into day The lives we live the lives we lead a gossamer of intricate, indiscriminate chance happenings of outward, insignificance Onward we march Inconsequential Our sideways looks, while others, staring straight ahead straight ahead, unless of course our trail turns crooked ..or heaven forbid, ,,,,we become diverted never less shadows growing into nightfall Steps becoming smaller, more precise Keeping a steady time and not so long ago,high mountains peaks crossed not today, not today There will be no flags, planted on distant mountain tops Not today maybe again, For, there is always hope Snassano 2-5-09

There will be no flags, planted
on distant mountain tops

Wonderful imagery, artistry, and philosophical disposition. Particulary appreciated these lines:
