These are nuts!
Now that I’ve had some time,
To give my brain a rest,
That at first I thought benign,
Or even an angelic jest,
It seems to have jelled, and although light.
Into a pudding dish,
That even I, ravenous in appetite,
Could eat through it wish,
Now it seems this fluke, this ruse,
Or whatever else it be,
Lead me, my talents to abuse,
And this, no less, for free,
Now I thought it through,
Given time to ponder,
Helplessly I have to do,
What I promised yonder,
A gathering of little demons in one place,
The gas line bust,
Golden liquid oozed in haste,
Get’ to a mechanic just,
All talk in language I know well,
It’s loud and kraut,
Some among them I could tell,
I knew something about,
And then another, I knew the voice,
Sure he can, I hear him all the time,
It’s a deal, he has no choice,
Just make sure you got some wine,
Oh God! Not you, and you,
What on earth, what are you doing here?
This can’t be true ,
One was my daughter dear,
And then the other guy,
Well, I had not seen him for some time,
He still looked young and spry,
My daughter pointed made a sign,
It’s been fifty years says he,
We have to get back together some day,
Matter of fact next Wednesday if you’re free,
Innocently as always, I say ok,
I heard you still got your voice,
That’s what your daughter tells me,
He’ll be there, she says, he has no choice,
It’ll be good for you, to sing again, you’ll see,
You can have beer after choir practice,
You will like it, you’ll see,
They need you, we have discussed it,
Both, all full of glee,
He is adding up my bill waiting for a yes I’m sure,
I thought what tricksters, Halloween is past,
Did in a perfect trap me lure,
Yes I said and got re-gassed,
Well, I thought with some chagrin,
This should be fun,
In a choir I will sing,
Should I hide or run?
I was sure, I’d get away,
Some fifty years ago,
On my way down to L.A.
Do re me fa so,
But as sure as you can see,
Old sins catch up to you,
Old drinking buddies and dear me,
We started that choir, that’s true ,
But who’d the hell would think it grow,
To fifty some or more,
And in the world their talent show,
That thousands would adore,
Some already up in heaven choir,
Sing Christmas songs up there,
From there my singing will admire,
And if to notes I still adhere,
It’s tough me thinks, don’t you?
To many talents have to share,
And all that drinking too,
Laugh you rascals if you dare!
