Power of the Sun

The sun is light

These days with gray skies

and cold nights,

I stand outside my window,

My hands idle and numb

not attached to anything

I look inside,

I lay sleeping each day

growing ever colder

The gray was always

in the mirror,

just outside my window,

where I stood

watching my reflection

I watched the world go by,

I wished for the light,

I dreamed of the sun

warming my body,

yet I could never reach it,

and standing there I saw,

death hovering over me

I know only the sun

could make it disappear,

yet I sleep and sleep,

and I’ve almost forgotten

who I was,

when in a dream,

I’m a young man again

I almost forgot me,

I couldn’t look in the mirror,

and see the man I once was

The reflection in the water,

was mocking me,

before it turned murky,

death had been moving

through the water

I’ve seen sunlight shimmer,

yet I was asleep and missed it

The sun is warm
