I know this is a bit harsh and I apologize for that, but sometimes
the truth bites. I wrote it a while
back and refrained from using it but
I had to get it off my chest.

Soul Connection

Your soul needs loved,
You found a connection,
but turned your back

When we first met,
years ago now
You said, oh you’re unmatched
Your poetry is an unsung melody
We have this connection,
You called it soulful,
one of a kind

We’d believed in a reincarnated love,
but you’d never loved a real man

You miss the man I was,
You couldn’t change me,
I couldn’t be young again

You miss the verse I wrote
It was magical
Now it has changed
for better or worse
It’s mine and no one else's

It’s beautiful, you exclaim
and not believing it,
I refrained from sharing it

No connection to the soul,
I’m humble,
you pumped up my ego
only to promote your own

As soon as another poet showed up,
You were gone, but oh so soulfully

You can’t change
who you are
You’re afraid,
You might find the truth
and I change everyday
I’m fading away

I’ll never grow up
to be the man you want,
even though that was your idea

Years ago now,
You said, you’re such a loving man
with a wonderful soul,
yet I’m not that man
I’m not that poet
who writes the verse
that bites and hurts

My muse said get real,
These tears are false

I wish it were real
and I was loved
I’m unrequited, unsung
Your magic was enchanting
but I’m changing
and your muse is a liar

You miss that man
which you can’t hold
He doesn’t exist
anywhere, he’s your fantasy

You love me soulfully
Is it the truth?
and years ago,
You made me up
to suit your needs,
yet you can’t change
You can’t be young again

You beat me up
trying to steal my glory
faking all that love

You’re an unsung melody
You aren’t a poet,
but now you write soulfully

See me laughing, unchanged
as I walk away
The spell is broken,
knowing I’m the poet
You’re just a wanna be
looking for someone to copy
and you call it a soul connection

Many of us experience what you wrote about here so well, Dale. Maybe now that you've written it out and shouted it out, you can go on in case a real love is looking for you. (:D

Peace.

telling it like it is this does. sometimes love is a one-way street. often we feel there is a connection there when there isn't. very philosophical and soul searching write.

Dale, one word for this "spectacular" ... you have managed to delve into the core of disenchantent that has come to terms with the realization that a "soul connection" does not make it a poetic experience just because it is connected to a "poet" ...

From the Queen of Harsh, you do it well and I hope you continue to share all that dwells within your soul, knowing that which spills over from a broken heart or troubled mind will be accepted as stepping stones back toward the soul of you, much-beloved poet. Dawn

Dale,
Whoa, talk about capturing "it" so well! There is much reality here...whether it was written from actual experience or an intuitive write, you certainly deliver the message!

Dale, a powerful message/poem, that needed to be said!
I'm glad you said it! As long as we get the bitterness
out we can recover and go on. Keeping it inside only
lets it fester until we are corrupted by it.

Love,
Alrisha

Ouch, this is powerful emotion, Dale! Nothing hurts worse than not being loved for who you are. Many times we project our ideals onto a lover-at a loss to ourselves as well as them. Pain is the result...

Getting things off one's chest is truly good for the soul, Dale - especially a poet's soul.
