...for sweet youth in all its glory, why must it end
...to recapture a moment so time would stand still
...for first love in technicolor, lovers on the big screen
...for the first kiss, awkward yet erotic and beautiful
...for a roaring river, you couldn't fish, just listen to
...for hypnotizing smells of pine trees growing tall in our minds
...for unfurled joys flapping in the cool breeze
...for a shower in the spring, water for the grass and flowers
...for muddy paths leading to murky streams
...to wait patiently for a hatch
...for a sudden epiphany, bringing wisdom
...for baseball in a horse pasture
...for a sunrise while brewing campfire coffee
...for the first sip, the heavenly warmth
...for my dogs howling at the coyotes singing their song
...for our little red rooster, learning to crow, with his sore throat
...for standing in a hay field, the hay swaying in the breeze
...for my two sorrel horses, cutting cattle, roping calves
...for the look on the foremans face after we break the broncs the Indian way
...for the smell of the horse barn, the warmth of the animals
...for the creak of leather, our chaps, as we saddle up and ride
...for sounds of bird calls in early morning, waking the day
...for the smell of lilac coming from the lilac bush in our yard
...for intense colors of rainbows, sunrises and sunsets
...for the twilight, its erie silence signaling the night
...for sitting in a circle around the campfire, telling tall tales
...for watching embers rising into the sky
...for stars shooting, covering us in a blanket
...for a full moon, whether blue or orange
...for sleep to dream of lovers and angels flying high
...for the freedom to wander the land which owns us
...for the crack of pool balls in the smokey tavern
...for the taste of fresh brewed beer, tasting bitter and sweet
...for the midnight and lovers lane
i've been known to howl at the full moon (any old color!) along with the hounds and coyotes... call it primal pleasure, like so much of what you have brilliantly captured in this engaging write, dale. very well done, poet.
