A Golden Halo

Hi Everyone and Thank You for your support during this rough time for me.
I tried to put a little humor into
this whole situation, basically this is what I penned before and after surgery.

A Golden Halo

On a sunny Sunday afternoon
the sun surrounds me
writhing in pain

I see the golden halo
as I await the chariot

I’m on a gurney
wheeled into waiting wings
when the bandits stole into my room
just to get a closer look
Seems the halo had turned orange
and I was burnt sienna

Feverish needing a shine
I’m moving in the dream
a morphine crystal sky
over the ranch
the horses grazing in their pasture

Among the restlessness
I no longer feel the pain
I sense a rhythm
Wisdom flashes me

My muse is high
laughing at my poetry
she says a golden halo?
why you’re a bandit
lost in time and space
astral galvanized

Of course it stole my mind
with thoughts twisted
the bandits visit
leaving one without a clue
so I grab one
just to realize who I am
knowing I was drowning
still they hold on

The lab rat moves
needing a nicotine fix

Were they learning?

No!
no comprende
no savy
no roast turkey
no road work
though the road is long and rough

Please saddle up my bay
I’m so sleepy
which brings out the bandits

You my darling, on your Palamino
me on my Bay
We ride across the empty plain
a starry trip
fiery tails cross the sky
made for smoother trails

We’ll sleep under the stars
the moon so bright
with flashes in our eyes

so I dream
the knives cut the fatty tissue
upon the bulbous umbilical
knowing I am watched
held in check

Hurry up and wait
the bandit is loose
rub down the ponies
saddle up for a trail drive
The arroyo is awash
so I dream

The wild dance
one awareness to another
a drugged up fantasy
A realm of another time

It’s over, they return
party’s over
let in the bandits

in the distance I see
Wintergreen Mountains
Pikes Peak
I wear a golden halo

I hope you won't be needing that halo for a long while Dale. I'm sure there is much more mischief waiting for you to get into. Thoughts and prayers are with you Sweet Man.

Amazing what our minds can conjure up, especially in times like these. And I hope you're now on the mend, cowboy!

I hadn't heard what happend to you; obviously MAJOR surgery. It's to your ruddy strength and credit you can pen so creative and disciplined a verse at a time like this: I would be dozing in a morphine stupor at best. Good Luck and hope you recover soon. Your a true poet!
