Fiction poem for I do not have a child, but my mother has a child in the army. I have respect for the armed forces but do NOT like what they do right now.

I bore him with pride,
His father left at an early age,
He had trouble in school.
After graduation,
He joined the army.
And my heart sank yet it reaped with joy too.

He would not tell me of what he was learning,
But I KNEW in my heart, He was learning How to KILL!
I never thought in my wildest dreams,
He would be put to a test of it!

He tells me he will not kill unless ordered to do so, by his commander.
The horrendous bloodshed in Iraq is enough to know,
That the Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force are killing anything that moves towards them!
Their innocence is lost! All of the soldiers have lost their innocence, not just my son!
The soldiers are no longer 18 going on 19 years, they are 18 years going on 30 years plus!At the very least.

The soldiers have seen a human body
Get blown up and a leg fly across
Their path.
Yes, I would say they have changed.
Wouldn't you?

Yes, it's pretty sickening what they do in the name of "freedom". They are learning not to think and not to feel. Just to get the job done--i.e. to KILL. Thank you.
