A folktale out of Alaska
That's been passed down for many years
About the first time that man cried
The first time a man shed his tears

A man left behind wife and son
While he went off to hunt a meal
Hoping he'd have an easy catch
Searching for a tender young seal

He spotted a group by the shore
Spying the man they slipped away
All except a lonely young one
It seemed like it wanted to play

As the man approached the young seal
Animal instinct told it to leave
Their last chance for food gone away
His eyes water, he starts to heave

This had never happened before
Salt water dripping from his eyes
He's bewildered and yells aloud
His wife and son answer his cries

When he tells them what has happened
Without food they will surely die
Quickly they too become choked up
Their eyes also begin to cry

Later the son helps his father
Soon together they catch a seal
Fashion its skin as a hunting tool
Helping them to catch their next meal

THE HISTORY BEHIND THIS MYSTERY
The original story tells of a man that left his family behind while he goes off to hunt seals. He soon spots a group of them along an icy shore line and gets excited, for he believes he has found an easy catch. But as he approaches them all but one escapes into the cold Alaskan waters. But as he creeps closer to the lone seal, it too slips beneath the waters.  As he stands there forelorn he realizes that there's a salty tasting watery substance coming from his eyes and a heaving sound coming up from his stomach. This has never happened to him or anyone that he has ever known and he is totally bewildered. His family hears him sounding out his confusion and they come running to find out what's wrong. He explains what has happened and they too begin to cry along with him.
