from Chapter 3 of my latest book -
MYSTERIOUS TRAILS OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE

A skeleton haunts the desert
At least that's what witnesses say
Seen walking and stalking the night
Never once seen during the day

Could it be the Spirit of Death
Looking for souls throughout the night
Or maybe the Keeper of Fire
Twice seen holding a lantern's light

Two miners had once spotted him
"A terrible phantom," they said
"A horrible thing, eight feet tall"
They both thought that they'd wind up dead

The creature simply ignored them
It didn't want them in the least
They grabbed their packs and hightailed out
Hopped a stage and headed back east

So who's to say where it comes from
Or if it's even real at all
Why don't you find out for yourself
You be the one to make the call

Camp out one night in the desert
Set up a tent and wait awhile
Maybe you'll see nothing at all
Or discover something quite vile

Well, ummm, I think not, Paul. I like my man with flesh on his bones. In fact, he just looked in to see what I was doing, and he did look good!
Indiana Jones is on TV, and he's into skeletons, too. You and he could probably share some great tales together!
