Ohio has a few monsters,
But it seems to be plagued by ghosts;
About anywhere you visit,
And how the locals love to boast.

The old Twin City Opera house,
Well known to be haunted by ghosts;
It is not for the faint of heart,
Yes, it is avoided by most.

At the Rider’s Inn in Painesville,
Sue Rider won’t give up her ground;
Though dead about a hundred years,
She’s still seen floating around.

At a Baptist church near South Point,
Come reports of shadows and lights;
Ghostly hymns are heard from within,
Giving visitors quite the fright.

And in the city of Cleveland,
In an old streetcar factory;
Disembodied voices are heard,
But there is no one there to see.

Let’s not forget Johnny Appleseed,
Dead and ragged his beard all white;
Visits the Chapman Cemetery,
Checking on his family’s gravesite.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE MYSTERY - Ohio history and folklore are rich with stories of ghost from nearly everywhere around the state. I’ve only scratched the surface of the many places that are reported to be haunted by one type of ghost or another.
Besides the ones I have mentioned in my tale there are reports of haunting incidents at Lake Vesuvius, King’s Island, Elizabeth’s Grave, the Briggs Public Library in Ironton, the Franklin Castle, the Moonville Tunnel and the list goes on and on.
