A variation of Chapter 48 from my book, MYSTERIOUS TRAILS OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE. Strictly a tale of fiction. There have never been any reports of such creatures swimming off the coast of Washington state. OR HAVE THERE? hmmmm.......
Up in the state of Washington
A little known tale does astound
People who live on the coastline
Tell us that sea monsters abound
Near the Columbia River
These creatures swim in from the sea
Serpents thick as telephone poles
Ranging from twelve to sixty feet
They've been sighted in the river
And up north in Willapa Bay
Some have swam up onto dry land
And have been seen both night and day
Indian legend tells of one
That came ashore one moonlit night
Hungrily ate half of the tribe
Left a gruesome and bloody sight
Be careful along the shore, my friends
Even in the brightness of day
A sea monster may rear its head
Simply reach down and pluck you away
Those slithering creatures are born & bred in Washington alright, but the DC one, not the one in the midwest...they are our senators, congressmen & President, the slimiest of all...LOL
