SOME HISTORY BEHIND THE MYSTERY
It seems like these seldom seen hairy residents of the Peach State continue to be noticed by residents and visitors alike. The most recent sighting that I could find in Georgia occurred in October, 2009 in Clinch County. It's located near the Florida border.
Don't walk through the woods all alone
You never know what creatures you'll meet
Sasquatch could be lurking out there
The one we know with the big feet
They've been spotted around the world
These hulking, massive, ape like things
Down in the peach state of Georgia
Folks say terror is what they bring
Referred to as gentle giants
And they're known as ferocious fiends
Hunters who've had them in their sights
Couldn't pull their triggers it seems
From priests, to farmers, to police
They have been sighted far and wide
Still, it seems like there's no real proof
This Bigfoot sure knows where to hide
Some think they are a missing link
A clue to our humanity
Or a creature as yet unknown
So, I guess we'll just wait and see
If you should be near Stone Mountain
Be very careful where you go
Gentle giant or vicious fiend
There's certainly no way to know
And even around Atlanta
Wooded areas can be thick
Bigfoot mostly lumbers around
But if it wants he can be quick

This legend just grows and grows. Adding poetry just keeps it up and continuing. Like you wrote, there is no real evidence and never has been because this creature is merely the figment of a storyteller's imagination.
From what I understand you will smell them before you see them...uck! Some things are just not meant to be known...and that drives human's nuts LOL. I live near the Rocky Mountains and hear tales about them from time to time. The only thing that is truly terrifying about them is that they are truly unknown...we are still just guessing to what they are. I enjoyed your write it was very informative and would get the reader to want to investigate more.
