What can I say, John? This is absolute perfection. Isn't it comforting to know that we will forever have our loved ones in our memory? I often tell people that my father died sixteen years before he finally passed away. The doctors called it dementia...organic brain syndrome. His last six months were spent in a nursing home. The doctor said if we didn't put him there, he was going to hurt my mother. I was the one who had to take him, and it was the most difficult thing I ever had to do. It still haunts me to this day. What a wonderful, loving father he was to me and my siblings and a good and decent husband to my mother. What you have written here about your own father is such a wonderful tribute to him. He, too, had to be a good and decent man for I can see such a strong resemblance in you. Thank you for guiding me to your poetry. May I suggest to others that they read your short stories as well.
Thank you John, I needed the reminder of a "candle that could be lit without a match"...
Perhaps losing someone near gives our heat a push of inspiration that comes out like a rainbow of pure poetry.
Certainly this poem have a place in such category.
Well done my friend, and God had blessed your Dad.

John, the relationship that you had, and still have with your Father, is the kind all human beings should have. You write with such deep expression...especially with this one, and as you continue on perfectly I might add with rhyme, it's a poem that compels the reader to want to read it again and again…and savor it like it should be. It was an honor to read, my friend, Love Holly
Oh John this is beautiful. I recall my father all the time too. At Christmas it was his time to shine. He is missed as your father is missed but there are times when I feel my fathers hands on my shoulder saying, "Princess, I'm right here with you always." I believe him as I always have. They don't leave us John. WE can't see them but we feel them in everything we do.
Love and peace for you and your family.
Quiet! Your father is listening to you.
The beauty of this poem brings tears to my eyes as I know this feeling so well - the death of my three sons. Thank you for a beautiful Christmas present.
God bless you. Kathy

You’ll be forever pictured
in corners trimmed with gold.
So do not feel forgotten

There is a candle can be lit
without a match I’m told.
And I will light this candle
with flame of all my dreams…

when distant life still seems."
