~~xXx~~
This happened to my husband late one day,
A game of pool was all he wanted to play.
Placing his coin on the table and awaiting his turn,
The desire to relax was what he did yearn.
After that person’s game was through,
He reached across to take the cue.
Another guy also reached out at the same time,
This guy had a face that was filled with grime.
My husband insisted it was his chance
The other man gave him a piercing glance.
Hubby said to him, ‘Now let us be fair,’
The man’s reply was, ‘What the hell do I care?’
Hubby continued to stand his ground,
Not allowing this guy to push him around.
What my husband didn’t know at this time
Was that this man lived a life of crime.
The man said to hubby with a voice that was flat,
I’m the terror who is known as Dr. Rat,
Well, Dr Rat, I’m not easily scared,
They call me “Rat Poison”, my husband declared!
Well, dear Dr. Rat was taken by surprise..
He wondered if this gentleman was telling lies.
He quietly handed over the cue,
And said, “Mister, Whoever you are, I do respect you!”
I have learned and enjoyed the reading of "Rat Poison".
"Rat Poison" is a masterpiece for the collection of twenty-first century Poetry of the Masters.
