We’d been committed less than a year
but most of that time she showed great fear.
She told me that she must go away
and didn’t say how long she would stay.
Her reason for leaving was so wild.
She said she was having God’s own child.
My reputation she wanted to save
because she knew the people would rave.
“Oh my Mary,” I said to her
“the commitment we made will endure.
There are always those who will accuse
when they are faced with some other views.”
I told her we’d face this hand in hand
and do everything just as God planned.
It hurt to see the pain she endured
but I had pride the way she matured.
A special beauty glowed on her face
as she held that baby in with such grace.
Her pondering heart overwhelmed me.
Such a picture of serenity.
Joseph, through his actions, showed the world the value and beauty in being a step-father. God in His infinte wisdom prepared us to love and respect a step-father. Your poem reflects this with infinite beauty.
An angel enlightened Joseph as he was prepared to divorce Mary and save her from disgrace. He was indeed a man of strong convictions. Beautiful reflective poem for this Christmas season.
