Haven't been far from the recliner and here is my reason.
I haven’t been around much
since my bird flew out the door.
She wasn’t that expensive
but I loved her all the more.
I named that bird Enza
I don’t know what it means.
But it seemed to be proper
with her feather of dark green.
I’ve had to leave my writing
and my reading just as well.
Without old Enza with me
it’s been a living hell.
I opened the door the other day
and now I’m feeling bad
‘cause in flew Enza to return to her pad.
I have run a fever and I’ve coughed a lot it seems.
And I don’t sleep long enough
to have pleasant dreams.
So I’ll take my medicine
and I’ll drink lots of water.
And hope that thermometer
will quit getting hotter.
And my poetry will have to wait
Another day or two.
until I have conquered this stupid flu.
Pour two soup spoons of honey in a thick glass-tumbler, fill it with Dark Rum (preferably Captain Morgan) until the glass is two thirds full, sip...sip a little more, lay back on the recliner, another sip, repeat the operation until you don't care anymore about the flu...
If that doesn't help...nothing will!!!
