The Old Men of Spring

It's about time for all us old men to get out those shorts and wear them in a way that embarrasses our family.

Spring’s arrival brings out the old men
with walking shorts, usually plaid
from above their stomach
reaching down to their knees
with white ivory legs
reaching down to their black dress socks
and their back dress shoes
shining so bright.

I say they are old
but some around forty
who embarrass their kids
with such out of place style
and a garage door opener
fastened at their waist
substituting for the cell phone
they do not own.

On their head is a panama hat
or a ten gallon
or a sombrero
or even worse
a bandana tied as a sweat band
around their bald head
or a visor
from the nearby bank.

Just in case you were hoping for spring
you might want six more weeks
of winter’s old sweats with holes
which hide those white legs
and dark socks
which may be accompanied
by old tennis shoes

Larry, don't you listen to lil'brother below, you ain't old, just that consume before date a little over...
I will be with Michelle here, it sounds Florida, but if you take a tour of Venice Beach in California you will get all those geezers you describe and then some.
I use shorts in summer, Marines tan, Marines baseball hat with the Marines logo, sandals, and the deep tan on the skin of my beautiful body (says my mirror that never lied to me) and a plain light blue T-shirt. Sometimes I go crazy and wear a stripped (horizontal)T-one.
I haven't heard a whistle from the girls...yet.

Why not air out their knees according to the weather. Good thinking in this poem here and good descriptions about the old men in their shorts. Walking shorts they are called.

Yep! The shorts of embarrassment are coming. My sis and I, sit on the beach and watch the free show......in OUR shorts of embarrassment! LOL
I think there should be a law, or cut off age for a person to wear the shorts! But then, where would the free shows come from? LOL, LOL
We elder folk have earned the rights to embarrass our kids/grankids,
