Enduring a Bad Sermon

Just sat through a really bad sermon. I had to start writing this just to pass time.

What do you do when you’re setting there
as the preacher speaks and you must be fair?
His subject you are ready to hear
but to that topic he isn’t near.

It’s like eating only the pizza crust
and the center leave like it was rust.
When he begins to come near the point
he slips like a bone in a sprained joint.

You feel like you have been on the road
which bypassed the town and never slowed.
The topic he chose sounded real good
but it’s been so long I’ve lost the mood

My calendar I begin to check
I’ve wasted my time but what the heck
I haven’t even made a peep
and I couldn’t even go to sleep.

It makes me wonder what others think
when I preach a sermon that might stink
But I don’t think it could have this smell
Even if it was as bad as hell.

To be honest, I didn't like going to church as a kid. I especially didn't like the sermons. Too long and boring. :-) Good read.

What can I say that Joyce haven't already said Larry. We learn something from very sermon and from each time someone speaks to us such as you just have.
Have a great day Larry.

LARRY, OH, LARRY....I COULD GO THERE AND EXPOUND HOW NO SERMON IS A BAD SERMON BECAUSE IT IS THE WORD OF GOD AND EVEN IF IT WASN'T PRESENTED IN THE WAY THAT YOU WOULD HAVE LIKED IT TO HAVE BEEN PRESENTED...GOD'S WORD IS ALWAYS GOOD, HOWEVER, I WON'T GO THERE(SMILE), I'LL JUST SAY, ...YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN MY CHURCH! TODAY WAS COMMUNION SUNDAY AND OUR PASTOR(ALWAYS GOOD)TALKED ABOUT THE PARABLE OF THE TALENTS(THE GIFTS)AND HOW USING OUR TALENTS TO LIFT UP JESUS...MULTIPLIES THOSE THAT RECEIVE IT MORE AND MORE BECAUSE THE MESSAGE IS PASSED ON AND ON AND THEN...SHE ASKED A QUESTION; WHAT IS GOD'S GREATEST GIFT THAT HE HAS, WHICH HE VALUES THE MOST? RIGHT AWAY...EVERYONE PROBABLY THOUGHT, IT'S MANKIND. BUT IT IS NOT. BECAUSE, IF WE DON'T OBEY HIS WORD, WE WILL PERISH. IT IS NOT HIS SON BECAUSE, HE GAVE UP HIS SON AS RANSON FOR US SO THAT WE COULD HAVE THE CHOICE OF ETERNAL LIFE OR HELL. THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THE ONLY THING THAT WILL NEVER EVER CHANGE OR PASS AWAY IS GOD'S WORD! THAT'S HIS GREATEST GIFT THAT HE TREASURES MOST...HIS WORD! THAT'S WHY NO MATTER HOW ONE DOES IT...THE WORD OF GOD IS ALWAYS GOOD. I DIDN'T MEAN TO PREACH, BUT I AM STILL SAILING ON THE SEA OF HIS LOVE. GOD BLESS YOU LARRY AND I PRAY THAT THE NEXT SERMON WILL IGNITE YOUR 'KINDLING'(YOU GOTTA BRING KINDLING) AND GIVE YOU THE WARMTH AND SWEET AROMA THAT YOU FEEL YOU DIDN'T GET THIS TIME. THANKS FOR SHARING. BLESSINGS, LOVE AND FAITH....JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
