These Feet Won't Dance

(My nick name from when I was born has been "Mimi" some people don't even know me as "Bernice"...)
Today I felt it all, I felt my father's pain and fear, it felt so real, it hurt...so I wrote this for him.

Dedicated to my Dad Moses, the chemo didn't work...and so we wait...

Poem Artwork

Oh how you must be feeling
Daddy
dry feet, dry skin, dry hands
dry mouth, dry eyes
aching, wasting, waiting
wailing
no escape, no exit, no repose
all exposed
no place to hide, no way to sigh
the pain, insane, no gain, no change
no money, no strength, not much to hold
not much pride left to ride
alone, cold, afraid
afraid to die
to leave behind a wife
a life and four children
well, five including the one you adopted
your step-daughter, me, Mimi
you called my name
so many times you called my name
"Mimi"
so sweet, oh so sweetly
you called my name
I won't hear, I won't hear you again
I won't see, I won't see you again
this void, this void, your absence will make
a man once whole, a hole in my heart
I won't dance, I won't dance with you again.....

(I love you Dad...I love you)

Oh, Bernice...Mimi...what a warm, soothing blanket-of-love this poem is for your Dad. I'm so sorry for the suffering he and you, and your family must be going through. But, keep faith, dear one, and know that we care.

I am so sorry. Your father sounds like a wonderful dad. You are blessed. It sounds like it didn't matter one twit to him that you weren't his blood, he just loved you. I am sorry he is going through this pain and agony. But he has a loving family by his side. A wife that will miss him. Be sure that we do care here and your pain is shared. Excellent write. Liz

Oh my dear friend I'm so very sorry. From experience I know what it is to watch the inevitable taking away our loved one a little more each day. May you find the strength you need and your writing continue to be a therapeutic outlet for you.
Hugs,
Marcia

so touching and expressive down to earth Mimi, verse does you good, you do verse good. Most say I write from the heart, well you do too. I don't know no other way to write. Too me it's like lying to God, you can't lie to God. If I didn't write from my heart, I would be lying to myself and my readers, too much for my counscious. Now I admit I will get a little silly and humorous in my verse, and I'll mix it up. But we got to have some fun while we're taking care of business. Anyway my heart goes out to you and your family. B Strong, this is how you honor your father, b strong and continue on in strength, hugs & Prayers

Made me teary eyed...
Letting go is such a difficult thing. Realizing that our parents are mortal and they won't be around forever is... just a nasty business! My heart goes out to you.

Your sadness is so clearly expressed and I can only understand.

Such a sad situation Bernice, but you have written so beautifully your heart's loving for your father.
It is so difficult when our parents or anyone's health (physical and/or mental) has brought them to the brink and yet left waiting to pass over to be home with their heavenly Father.

What a beautiful tribute that any father would be so proud to hear alive or dying. May the Lord take him home where he will be whole again and know only happiness all of his days.

As a father no man could ask for more than to be loved and missed as much as you obviously love and will miss him. As a father myself I know my day will also come and I will have to say goodbye to my girls one last time but I know longer fear or dread it for I know I loved and was loved in return. Bernice I am sure your father feels the same.

Standing On My Knees by Pinkstone
