As the road dipped and twisted through the silent wood
where pale birch and spindly pine trees stood,

the years slid back in a twinkling of an eye
and soon I was in times long passed by.

The trees rose up like ghosts in their thick, gold and russet, leafy shrouds
and the mists of time floated along the ground like earthbound clouds.

I fancied I felt a hundred eyes following me
as time spiraled, looping endlessly.

I caught a strange elusive movement from the corner of my eye
that might be a fairy, gnome or an elf gliding by.

Suddenly a castle loomed ahead and I wouldn’t be surprised to see
medieval sentries standing there, still watching at their posts loyally...

or perhaps the shade of a some prince’s army there
massing around it, laying seige to the castle standing here.

Perhaps tales of Owain Glyn Dwr’s 15th century rebellion long
have haunted me and fired my imagination so strong...

that I see a Welsh army behind every tree and every fence
along with each castle I see, building up and preparing for its defence.

The road curved and weaved as the miles and years flew by....
as the horizon showed the glorious colors of sunset in the sky.
