Blood Of The Day

The television glows,
forcing shadows on the sleepy wall.
Nothing new in the news tonight.

Unchanged, the world revolves around
another rumor,
the heartbeat of distraction.

War is so bland when it’s 24/7.
The blood of the day rarely changes.
Vampires seldom discriminate,
making vintage unimportant
to those who never bleed.

Israeli, Arab, Spaniard,
Yours, Mine. Is there a difference
when it’s innocent?

How true are your words, Lori. A hard lesson to take perhaps but truth and wisdom ought not be denied. Thank you for this offering. Love and peace. Regis

Lori,
I rather agree w/Amanda, but it's up to you...
I, this says something so vital and so true and in so few words and that last line, oh yes...
When will anyone ever learn...
You've written an Importan piece abouy what that 24/7 does and these thoughts have gone through my mind in various ways, but you made them so damned Right On Relevant and I thank You...
a should be read, at least in my opinion...
One amazing draft, if that is what you feel it is, but it was a Poem that Reached me...

Rather than revise this, maybe you should just create a separate poem: there is NOTHING wrong with this the way it is! A very insightful social piece of social commentary!

I fond htis to be rather soothing Lori even tho its about wars, or tht seems to be its main subject, I don't have a tv so I can't get to much into the comment, but one thing dd strke me was how you used Israel, Arab but then Spaniard, so the Spaniard truck me cuz int he movie there was this guy named that who was some collosal type warriar but also a general, in the colleseum they called him Spaniard, now that was interesting to me somehow how I picked up on that, makes you think the movie making amost fortells real life ty al

Cable news channels make it seem like we actually live with the war in our living rooms, believe me it's not the same. Love the poem.

I know what you mean Lori, another bomb, x number killed again, many homeless.....we sit and watch it night after night. I think to contimplate what lies behind the stories is sometimes too much for many of us, so we shut it out.....we need a jolt like this wonderful piece to make us stop and think.
A agree with others, I dont feel this needs to be altered, it hits home exactly as it is.

No, I don't think you should revise this. In poetry, first drafts are usually the best. This is a fine piece of work. You don't need to change a thing.

add to it...doens't need that either...it is
rivetiing...we get used to war dont we?...we
shouldn't...its like swearing...we are shocked
by it..but to those who do it often it just
becomes their language....great write...floria

This is superbly stated as it is, Lori, and I hardly think needs a redraft... the sleepy, dreamlike quality is the more startling because of the numbness with which we view such disaster on a worldwide and individual scale: seeing these things as a mere "distraction" is bad enough - but you've woven into this the even worse state of using it almost like a sleep-inducing intoxicant! Good work - and sobering. KB
