My Sixth Time

This is one of my older poems. Written in 2002. Based upon my sixth (and last) suicide attempt... Fall 2001...

How did I get here this time...
Ambulance, parents, family, or friends...
Did they find me in the street again...
In the gutter, off my feet again...
How close did I come to the end again... this time...

They have pumped my stomach,
The charcoal is down,
I know the routine,
My sixth time around,
But how did I get here this time...
And why the badge at my door,
this time around...

How did I get here this time
Exactly what did I take...
A bottle of this, a little of that
Depakote, Seroquil,
Xanax or Restoril,
Washed down with the vodka or gin...
How did I get here, how long has it been
And what is this light that’s been calling me in
Just how did I get here again... again
How did I get here this time...

8th February 2002.

Oh,Lori. Good for you for being able to express
it openly on Authorsden. I am so thankful and PROUD too that you are Alive and here with us through the good times and bad too. I have had Many a suicide attempts myself. The last one was January 12th,2002. It has been a long road and I am sure you are quite well aware of. I will be praying for you everyday Lori. God Bless you!

I don't believe in suicide, never have.
What's a doll like you thinking that way anyway for?
Spend a week with ShyPoet (and my girlfriend) and I bet I can change your whole out look!
--- cause I've seen the best and worst in people!

A sad poem, but reality can be sad sometimes. You have a good opportunity to help others by your poetry, and your experiences. All the best to you...

Lori, your cool objectivity here is chilling and expressed with such clarity that none of us reading this can dodge the issues. We are all SOOOOOOO glad that you are still with us - just look at the widespread "safety net" of well-wishers outstretched underneath me here, all just wanting to catch you should you feel unsteady! This last attempt´s been a long time now, Lori, so keep walking tall and free. What I "loved" about this write is the teasing question: "How did I get here this time?", leaving us asking, perhaps, did you mean "How did I manage to survive?" or "How did things get so bad?" You are a very gifted writer and not afraid to make yourself vulnerable in a way that is, I´m sure, a healing balm to others. We love you, girl! KB

your heart and soul like this.I'm so proud of you!
I know your struggle, and I see a new approach in
your attitude, I hope and pray you hold onto it

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
