My Own Work of Art

Color coded lies
satisfy your perception.
Each word filed behind a smile,
yet void of truth.

I've learned the secret of your palette.
Right and wrong are filler
to one like you.

Airbrushed phrases of forever,
a cherished portfolio,
no longer own my attention.

Once, I trusted you.

Not understanding the double-standard rainbow,
I fell hard for that promised
pot of gold.

Now, the canvas of my desire is independent.
Satisfied with my own perspective,
I'll mix colors for my pleasure.
Having learned that certain bases
cannot co-mingle.

No longer displayed upon your easel,
I am my own work of art.

Loved how this wrapped up. You don't let yourself be painted by others anymore. From now on, you hold your own brush. And it's a wonderful thing to see.

Absolute perfection, Lori! No more and no less - like with all great art, it's knowing what to put in and what to leave out and you've painted the ultimate with this write - ESPECIALLY the piece de resistance with the last line. As has been said, the power of the whole is quite extraordinarily stunning and leaves an impression upon heart, soul and mind that transcends the meaning of the words somehow - PURE POETRY! This must be a winner and a library piece for everyone! Gonna frame it and hang it, girl! BRILLIANT! Thank you, Katexx PS Funnily enough, I have a similar thought process bubbling up in me today, but I wouldn't dare to publish after this definitive work!! xx

Each line seems to have it's own special meaning. I could feel the words.
You did this very well.

" . . . I am my own work of art." Lori, this is truly the sum of it all isn't it---life, full circle, independent, empowered, and driven by our own self-evolving personhood. Reading this piece reminds me of how freeing it is to know one's self, apart from and not relying on others to make us whole, mixing colors for our own pleasures. Thanks for re-affirming what we have worked so hard to confirm. Beautiful insight . . . your figurative language is perfectly colored, the perfect palette of words. Your writing always stimulates growth and extraordinary introspection. Keep up the emotive work. Awesome write. Enjoyable read.
