Alone so long the years no longer pass.
Death has taken some,
Life others.
Wrinkled sadness contradicts
the homecoming hope she clings to.
Lost again in a daily dream, she hopes
for a postmarked sign of love.
She walks to the box, slowly, stooped,
step by step, then returns with empty hands.
Tomorrow, she’ll dream and walk again.

A sad and poignant tale.....We've all been there before
However hope springs eternal!!!!

Just stunning caftmanship and sentiment, here, Lori. My feeling is that this person could either be elderly - or, conversely, quite young but lost in the robbery of personal grief. And the whole speaks of the disconnected slowness of sleepwalking... what you in the US call dreamwalking, I think. This also reminded me of the last few lines of Bhuwan's most beautiful recent piece about the obsession of a love, especially the sentiment: "I am lost in the midst of my own life" (from "I am not with me tonight" - quoted from memory, so I hope I haven't misquoted too badly!) Whether about the dotage of old age or the unreciprocated love of the young, this poem says it perfectly, Lori, Bless you. Kate xx
Sad commentary on life more so by the fact I think we've all felt this at one time or another. There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. You captured a person's dispair for the day as well as her hope in a new opportunity tomorrow.
the Golden years are lived in the twilight and full of tears and fears of the forgotten...we need to be remined that our own dottage is fast approaching...what will be our karma?
This is a vivid write. I know of some this has happened too, the loneliness or aloneness. I know also of some who are just glad to get junk mail. If we could just reach out and write, call, or visit someone we know or know of to bring a ray of sunshine to them. It may make all the difference to them. I like this well crafted write.
Wow Lori..this is brilliant.
So many of the elderly are in
this sad position..playing the
waiting game. You wrote this
with much feeling and compassion.
Excellent!!!
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
However hope springs eternal!!!!
