A certain sarcasm here. Disenfranchised masses are the source of most terrorism and crime. Guys like George Bush, not the brightest bulb, have thrived on entitlements [wealthy supporting the wealthy] most of their lives. The current methods of taxation and entitlements are clearly unfair. All or nothing. You qualify or you don't. Nixon had it right. A workfare where each one worked to their ability and were subsidized to an income above poverty. The rich do not need excess to live well. They should share their good fortune. Bill Gates, as ruthless and monopolistic as he is, believes that an inheritance tax is good.

OK then, putting cards on the table, what would be deemed to be "fair", but at the same time to redistribute the wealth so that the "fat cats" were still suitably comfortable and yet put pennies in the pot so that others might be at least living above the poverty line? And which Administration would you most trust to deliver these sorts of goods and promises?! Stir, stir!!!!! Here in the UK, because we earn over a certain threshhold we are taxed at 40% - do I have any takers for that?! Still our health system is creaking along with education and anything that is basically state-funded for the benefit of all. However, if I could be sure that my taxes WERE actually helping towards building a better standard of living for everyone, then I would consider my high rate of taxation worth it. Who needs to change their car every few months, anyway, when people are going without food and heat? That seems to be what it boils down to here in Good ol GB at any rate - but I'm just ignorant about US so I'd better just zipper up! Provocative write, Lori, and one that is dear and close to all our hearts!! It's good to have a light-hearted look at such issues! Our country is a Union, an experiment in community, where we all chip in our fair amount and then make sure our government spends our dues wisely. It's not strange to me to see people trying to defeat unions at the same time they do not want to pay any taxes for our shared union, The United States. Selfish interests run our country now, and paying dues is anathema. It's a mindset promulgated by the right wing.

Don't I know this. I'm paying so much tax it wasn't funny. It used to be great receiving our pay cheque, not anymore.
