Wow Lori, I love this! Very profound! I was actually thinking of the mirror of the soul when reading this - before getting to the end. If a person can look at him/herself (soul), see the uglyness and be willing to work on it, then its a plus!!

I sometimes wonder about the same thing too when I look at myself in the mirror. We all have this feelings at one time or another. I think I had wrote something similar like this too in my own personal site, called "Mirror On The Wall" where I told myself to go to hell; but my words weren't as powerful as yours.

Good write for an inner-self evaluation. We all need this at one time or another.

It's amazing the power that self-image has to shape our lives and to be the grid through which we view others in relation to ourselves, too. Often, no amount of either honesty or lies from others can change the way we self-perceive... on the other hand, I just LOVE the "lying mirrors" they have in shop and gym changing rooms... but then, I am just shallow! Don't need no mirror to tell me that! :)) It's at least comforting that we are all in the same boat... if a little sad! You shine - honest! LOL Kate xx

Mirrored images are never the true substance of those they reflect. They lack the dynamics of us and of course they are manufactured to make us look much worse than we do ;~) !! My vision of self is so much better than what I see in a mirror or a photograph. I think that I have finally learned to live by and to appreciate myself for, all that lies beneath my skin. Gee, and it only took 55 years! Great introspective write, Lori, even if it isn't about you.

A psychological triumph!

I know we all have negative self-talk, but sometimes it's hard for me to believe that someone as intelligent, beautiful and multi-lingual as you could be critical of yourself. LOL I think you should ditch that mirror and find one that says the truth about how great you are and disregards the negative at least until it can say it in a more constructive way. Good topic though.
