If I could love a boy again, I’d love a boy like you
But boys are boys and men are men
And I’m too tired to play again

If I could love a boy again, I’d love a boy like you
But girls aren’t toys and toys aren’t friends
And I’m too tired to play again

If I could love a boy again, I’d love a boy like you
But life is not a simple game
And love is more than sweet refrain
I’d love to love, but all the same
I’ve grown too much to play your game

maturity is a rare thing in this world.
Blessed are those who find it in another soul.

Very well put.

You did the phrase justice, Lori. It takes a man to win a strong girl's heart. Life is no game and the play is for keeps.

What a playful toying with truth. I love it!

Yes, boys are boys, but I've found that men are not necessarily men. Many seem to retain a boy's mentality in a man's body, recognizing perhaps that big girls aren't girls, anymore, but wanting to toy with them anyway 'cause, in reality, the men are just bigger boys marching time as they add to their collection.

But to pen such a mature perspective, it's obvious that little Lori Moore is a grown-up woman fancifully day-dreaming of the days of yesteryear when she enjoyed--in carefree abandon--loving a boy. From a different gender profile, I recall only too well the Beatles' song "Yesterday." But then that brings back to mind another of their tunes, "Let It Be."

And so we move on, the aspect of "Loving a boy" simply another circumstance which permits us to grow and to be able to enjoy the bountiful fruit of maturity. And from a really, really grown-up man's point of view--if I get any more grown up I'll be daydreaming of speakeasys, flappers and prohibition--I'll take the grown-up woman anytime. Yeah!

Love a girl, again? No, I've grown too much to play their game.

Okay, I guess I get too much mileage out of a few lines of verse. But you wrote it, girl friend!

Love to you,
Richard

I get it, Lori. It makes sense. Girls are girls and I haven't figured them out yet. After reading your poem, I don't feel so badly. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Regis

This poem tells it like it is. When we mature, we don't care to play those games. We want a relationship that has mutual love and respect. I enjoyed reading this poem, Lori.

Loved your poem,Lori, Boys are boys but they do have to become men.Girls mature a lot faster than boys. Some boys as they've gotten older still need help.To love young Is to learn from mistakes and
hope that what you've learned will help your search for that special one.
Merry Christmas

We picture love as if it's only sweet smelling bouquets and forget that life hands out flowers and thorns. But true love, I read, is a community of two and if they work hard, the thorns will leave little scars. As you say love is not a game. Victor

I second this one, Lori. If only love came without all the games and lies; I just don't want or need to deal with that anymore. I am not going to try to say that I am innocent of ever playing a game, but I learned long ago that hurting someone for my own gain was not a victory at all. My self-respect is far too important to me now to ever use someone, or allow myself to be used, in that way again. Excellent poem, as always when I visit your den.
Take care,
Sherry

I like this Lori, you stated your case well and the message shows signs of coming of age in a romantic relationship kind of way. It is easy to go with the flow when we are young and the loving is fun but after a while we need somthing more substansive and you seemed to have defined that change here.
