The whisper of death Screams loudly to my faint heart Suicide mentioned My soul’s annihilation Leaves me crying once again Terror reigns within Darkness overcomes my heart Hopelessness repeats I cry to be delivered My tears wash away nothing A burial cloth Hinders all entrance of light Inner man cries out Stagnation rots my being I am eternally lost Death calls me higher Again I seek destruction Life’s stench lingers on I long for simplicity Where worms eat away my flesh Depression’s lone gift Suicidal tendencies Horrified dreams Recurring sweet psychosis Success shall be mine someday Tanka is a short form of Japanese poetry. It is a mood poem written in five lines that incorporates images of nature and human emotions. It is traditionally written in 31 syllables of 5,7,5,7,7. Modern writing of tanka varies in both syllables per line and number of lines. Tanka often go without title.
Each Stanza can stand as a separate work, or all five can be read as a single offering.
