The first and the last are Tanka...

fresh tears betray me
emotions expose weakness
heart games continue
past the point of no return
lovers games cannot be won

.....................................

withholding solace
your words maintain deception
simplicity dies

.......................................

flowers of the heart
strangled by broken promise
die a lovers death

......................................

death shadows my heart
realities perfection
love is rarely true

.....................................

lies know no limit
can love see beyond the grave
resurrect my heart
with visions of tomorrow
yesterday’s fool has perished

Tanka is a short form of Japanese poetry. It is a mood poem written in five lines that incorporates images of nature and human emotions. It is traditionally written in 31 syllables of 5,7,5,7,7. Modern writing of tanka varies in both syllables per line and number of lines. Tanka often go without title.

It is believed today that haiku as we know it, developed from the ancient Japanese form of tanka. Haiku are short verses, Japanese poems with 17 syllables or with 3 lines and a natural rhythmic structure, when written in English, of 5, 7, 5 syllables.

Tanka and haiku/senryu work well together, and you have done very well here, Lori.

I can never get my head round Japanese forms when written in Elglish, a verbose language. You have written these cwell and with discipline but as usual I found myself wishing the ideas had been explored further.

Broken heart reveals
lover's falsehoods uncovered
as spirit heals self.

:) Or something like that!! I, too, love the "whole" of the seperates, Lori! Nicely done!
