October Signals

The winds are anxious and the woods are wary.
The darkness of night calls out to all “I’m scary”.

October Signals

The winds are anxious and the woods are wary.
The darkness of night calls out to all “I’m scary”.
Night creatures creep and crawl about,
while day creatures hide beneath rocks and within crevices thereabout.

Wild winds bemoaning a chill of late October,
stripping colorful leaves from the trees, randomly whipping them all over.
The chill creating chill bumps on my skin, completes its cycle,
when shivers automatically signal the deep cold of my bones within,
bearing witness to winter’s revival.

Late October unrest tells us time again is scurrying past;
like the bears who make ready to hibernate and fast,
as the squirrels store up nuts and supplies through the winter to last.
Birds suddenly seem to disappear, seeming to say
“Goodbye, it’s been fun, but we’ll see you next year!”
They’re going where it’s warmer and food and drink more plentiful;
using their innate senses and skills to direct them to a place of survival.

October signals are there for all of us to witness;
another year almost past, leaving only reminisces.
Days are gone of summer sun.
Spring has long ago sprouted and sprung its fun.
Unbearable heat from the sun’s full fury, now gives warily in to Fall winds a’ flurry.
Soon their blustering will turn into quiet snowflakes, and places where ducks swam and sunrises and sunsets danced sparkling, will be solid and still, above life’s underlying remarking.

October signals say “Goodbye” to this time in eternity,
as they give way to a season meant for rest and reflection;
a time to recall and renew our bodies and souls,
warming them within, from without.

 Reviews of "October Signals"

Nature heedfully observed by the eyes of the Poet, which depicts
its metamorphosis and multi-functions. "October Signals" has complied with its poetic tasks, and has delivered a magnificent
poem.

Seems we are both in an October theme, though what else could it be as we are in October...nothing like reminding me of the cold weather that is not too far away, though thankfully here in NJ the weather does not get as forbidding as you describe till January or sometimes later...boy you certainly do conjure up images with this write...Ed & Rufuz
