One of my favorite things to watch on my mountain.

Poem Artwork

Haven’t Learned to Share

I always thought that hummingbirds were the sweetest little things.
And being thankful for winters end and the start of early spring.
I love to sit and watch them, at the feeder in the tree.
And I am thankful for the pleasures, the little birds give me.

But as I watch I’m horrified by what I’m looking at.
One little bird takes control and drinks ‘til he gets fat.
He won’t let any other bird get close enough to drink,
He chases all the birds away, and I wonder what they think.

The feeder’s full and quite enough for all of them to share.
But that one selfish little bird doesn’t seem to care.
When they get close, he swoops down, and bops them on the head.
Away they fly to a safer place, and never did get fed.

Those of us that are watching are hoping he will learn.
That there’s enough for all the birds and they should take their turn.
But at the end of summer, things are still the same.
They haven’t learned to share and it’s the same old game.

Dear Bonnie,

This is Lois C. at Donna B home. She is having more heart palpatations today and not feelng up to par. We are going to bingo tonight and she feels if she goes to Dr. he will put her in for tests. Pray for her to be well again and get better. She did have her great grandchild to watch today and he gets into everything. She has two others here too and maybe when they leave she will settle down. Thanks, Lois and Donna B.

Maybe it's like the old saying, "Beauty is only skin-deep." The hummingbird feeder here is on the front porch, and sometimes those zippy little rascals zoom right over our heads, as though trying to scare the humans away, too. They are very aggressive birds, but we put up with them because they are fascinating.
We especially like when we spot one sitting in a tree, so tiny they seem unreal.
Very enjoyable poem, Bonnie
Love, Connie

Don't put up feeders for these little guys...no need...we have an abundance of "trumpet vines" that make for a natural sharing place. Love you tale and very good poetizing, Bonnie!!

Not only in human nature, but in the animal (bird) kingdom, as well - survival of the fittest and all that - I just think humans are worse. :( Powerful reminder, Bonnie, very well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
