I remembered years ago we had an electric can opener that sat on the counter. (is this a sign of dementia? help!) And that is what I was looking for when the "now" can opener hung under my cupboard.
Ok now where is it,
That thing that I lost?
It was there before,
I know what will it cost
if I have to replace it.
Oh help me to find
my can opener now
so we can all dine.
You know opening those cans
can be quite a big chore,
especially when those guys
want dinner and more.
I looked here
and then I looked there.
I called up Cass
and she came with a flair.
I think that she realized
I was daffy alright,
but she only smiled
and figured it was in sight.
But I just didn’t see
it jumping out in front of me,
hanging under the cupboard
and I couldn’t see
what was obviously there
quite in plain sight it was.
So why, my goodness why,
couldn't I see it and thus
I kept thinking that I,
with my confused mind,
could have put it somewhere
I would never find.
Then all of a sudden
my mind came to light;
why I didn’t have that old can opener
that sat on the counter in sight.
But under the cupboard,
hung my new opener I found.
and I wondered why
my mind is not sound!
We all have those senior moments, looking for something and it is in front of our eyes or close by. You probably had other things on your mind too and were hurrying to get supper for your crew.
A humorous look at the world and life through my eyes.

that was right in front of me, but
couldn't see it there.
A fun write

I like the feel of this poem. it's light, airy and so down to earth funny. Believe me, I've done worst. (lol) Peace, Love and Blessings, Paul.
