I woke up this morning with a thought almost on my mind
Couldn’t quite remember what it was but couldn’t forget it either
It was just an inkling, a fragment of a moment
Long lost in time but never quite gone
I struggled unsuccessfully to bring it to mind
But it slipped away again, ever elusive, just a tease
All thru the day, it nagged at my consciousness
Pestering my memories, daring me to bring it out
Where its mystery could no longer pain me

That always comes to you when you finally quit humming it
This would not release me so easily, would not face me head on
Instead it taunted me from behind locked doors
Doors of my mind but doors non the less
