I used to believe in something
No that’s not true
I used to believe in everything
True love, the innate goodness of man
The theory of relativity
God’s plan for mankind
I believed there was a reason for all things
That there was a possibility
For world peace
I believed that a bad man could change
And that a good man would never go wrong
I believed that life held a mystery
And that we stood a chance of understanding it
I believed….that is the key to who I was
I honestly believed in so many things
And that is the difference
In the person I am today
I have stopped believing
And I truly grieve for the person
I used to be

It happens to all of us Sue, it's called life. But we come out on the other side of it, believers again.

Time changes us along with disappointments...We have to keep forging ahead though we yearn for our youth and 'happier' moments with no responsibilites. This poem shows honesty and a cry from your soul.
A wonderful write!

Great write. I like the wide variety in the belief system you express. The ending is extremely strong. The poetic crisis is constructed perfectly.

No Karla, I haven't stopped believing in me, this is just a poem, i'm still a Pollyanna at heart. I am finding it harder and harder to be enthusiastic about writing lately though, wondering why I am still writing, does it really ever touch anyone besides me, and is that enough. Is there a poetic change of life crisis? I seem to be going thru one. thank you for reading, you are among my favorite people at AD, your empathy for others is amazing.
