I Miss You Like That

It was Memphis
Or maybe New Orleans
Doesn’t’ matter, one of those towns
The ones we stayed in
Only long enough to wash our clothes
And clear our minds
Those traveling days were long and lazy
And the town was hot and dusty
Could have been Atlanta or Needles
But probably wasn’t either one
Point is, we were there
And so were the times
And the times were full of love
And laughter that had no end
I loved you like there was no tomorrow
And sadly, there really wasn’t
I left you there in that southern town
Or was it the far north east
Whether it was Fargo or Cheyenne
I know there will never be another town
Or another time, like the one we had
And I miss you like I miss the times
And the laughter that had no end

A sad one.
We want to keep what we have, there's nothing else we want that much as that person we love. And do have to accept that it is over and all we'll have left are memories of these days we never wanted to end.
Excellent.

Neat write, Sue! You make this seem so casual and effortless, but you have woven this with perfect balance and inversion - and I love the paradoxes! Quite brilliant and simply understated... thus merits rereading over and over! "I loved you like there was no tomorrow And sadly, there really wasn't... And I miss you like I miss the times And the laughter that had no end" Irony and humour here, as well, I think, with your laid-back, conversational style. Class act! TY Kate xx
