Catalina Island 1975

There was this little café on Catalina Island
Just down the street from the wharf
Used to be an Italian restaurant
But nothing stays the same
Even here, where nothing seems to change
We used to sit there and talk
About the things that was important to us
And much that wasn’t
We’d usually end up drinking
At that bar around the corner
The one with the live band
And the bowlegged bartender
Said he used to be a sailor
But now he was just a drunk
Like most of the rest of us on Catalina
The diehards who stayed all year
Like you and I
And that dark haired girl from the seafood place
And that guy they called Big Mike
We stayed when the others left
Settled in for a long hard winter
Of Dewars and coke
Or Gin and tonic
Whichever we found we needed
When the cold winds started to blow
Here on Catalina
A million years ago

Truly enjoyed another of your captivating nostalgic writes, Sue. Brought back lots of memories for me, too, of a life that truly does seem like a million years ago to me.
