Why, if I am so drawn to the fire Do I hurt so badly from the burn The glow pulls me close The warmth sucks me into its path Teasing me with promises of comfort Making me crave its touch Wanting so badly to feel the heat To revel in the passion and ecstasy Of a fire that burns into the very heart of me Reaching inside to warm the places That have been cold for way too long But as I give in to the blaze Walking open eyed into the furnace I always come out more than singed, Heart and soul cracked and oozing Burned black and fried to a crisp Damn why am I so drawn to the fire When I hurt so badly from the burns
