Its my fault
I said I wanted the truth
I begged you to tell it like it is
I can handle it I said
Crossing my fingers behind my back
Tell me the truth dammit
I need to know how you really feel
Don’t hold back
I swear I can take the beating
That I knew your words will bring
Tell me the truth I shouted
Don’t treat me like an invalid
I can handle anything you throw at me
I don’t think I ever believed it was true
So how can I expect honesty from you
When I lie, even to myself

What a deep and thought provoking
poem, Sue! It really makes one think
about their situation and more
importantly, themselves! Thanks for sharing!

Often, I think we ask for truth, hoping it will validate the answers we want to hear and believe. When the truth it told and we feel its crushing blow, our lies of being strong enough to handle it become painfully obvious. Well written verses that most can completely relate to.
Take care,
Sherry

your have revealed the state of our minds when we seek the truth yet deny its answer because of the conclusions we deny within ourselves ...

you've captured something essential here, Sue. how we lie to ourselves and demand truth we have sometimes worked hard to deny. i've told myself the "i can handle it" lie more times than i care to admit. very good write.

How very honest. A double whammy the truth hurts
and your own lies do too. I guess that's why they
say ignorance is bliss;-)
