It’s just a part of growing up I guess
Maybe a little late but hell
Better late than never
I'm learning to accept what I have
Instead of regretting all I haven't
For instance I no longer expect to change the world
Or bring about world peace
I don't really think I will reach pinnacles
That once looked like tiny hilltops to me
I suspect now that I will never create a masterpiece
That will be read and enjoyed by millions
I'm happy to have found my own little piece
Of happiness and posterity
Poetry has given me something
That nothing else in my life ever has
A way to capture a little bit of space and time
A window into the soul
That I might otherwise have missed
Words…they seem like such a small thing
To be so monumental
Poetry…just a small part of art
And such a large part of my life
And this act of growing up

I never had a clue, what I was missing, until one day I decided to pen my thoughts.
When I was done, I realized it was a poem. I've been writing eversince.
and I have grown up..grown to realize not everything in life, is mine to delve into.
Excellent writing Sue.

Beautifully done Sue
Poetry has opened my mind
To all avenues of thoughts
And it came late in my life time
but I am enjoying every moment
I pick up a pen.

Beautiful and so true of how it makes me feel and it is neat to find and be able to do to find the things that hide in the soul. Perfect!

This is one of your best Sue, Welcome to life's realization that if we but touch one soul with our art we have achieved a monumental place in the annals of history.

This is a well-written coming of age poem. I believe we become more content as we age.

Sue, this is a fine poem.I agree with you, I get such joy from my poetry, I don't expect anything else. Some of my friends argued with me because I turned down a publishers offer. I might be only one of very few who don't care to have a book. I'm not intersted in fame, in fact I don't like it. Perhaps at an earlier time, but now I'm content with what I have.To me relationships are what's important.

Poetry has given me something
That nothing else in my life ever has

Then it has truly given you a wonderful gift - Write On!

Excellant Sue and I always enjoy what you write. But I learned early on to protect myself. I am selecting poetry to put in a new book I am working on that I wrote and I put the correct legal term because I had someone that tried to steal my work with the same name. I do know of sites that do that and you should have your very talented work protected. I know what you write and it is good you deserve credit and the royalties for your very fine work.
