Guilty

I’m guilty
Of wanting more than God wanted me to have
I begged and pleaded
Praying every night
I bargained for more time
Promising anything that came to mind
Because I couldn’t let you go
I’m guilty
Of wanting you more than life itself
I gave up my self-esteem
For a few more days of your time
I groveled and I prostrated myself
Before God and before you
Wanting nothing but to hold you one more night
So I’m confessing this sin at last
I’m guilty
Of loving you too much
And still
I can’t let you go

We are often confronted with this kind of situation. It is sad that our thinking does not correspond with what God wants for us. great that you confessed and wrote this poem. I am sure it's off your mind.
Hugs.

Well I suppose we all can plead guilty to loving someone and no matter how much we do. I wonder if there is a thing called too much.

Sue, you have had many burdens placed on your shoulders over the years and though like all of us you may have trembled at times from the weight, you have found the extra strength to go the extra mile. Now it seems you are trembling again except this time it is you...yourself who yu must find the extra strength to walk on and walk tall. Life is short and you must find happiness where you can...

Sue, this as all have said, is not only a dangerous thought-pattern, but it's teetering on the edge of anihilation. Self destruction, maybe not in the sense of suicide, but in the sense of losing one forever in somebody else's own greedy indulgence.
We are all important in God's eyes, He lifts us up...Mortal man however allows us to devour our own selfworth, and smiles while it is being done.
Very deeply sad portrayal of a love diseased.
Excellently penned Sue!

Another superb write on a topic that many of us can relate to obsession is a bitch plain and simple! It makes of us rag dolls and we let it,then have to go through hell to recover our self-worth. The key is realizing only we can change ourselves.

An addiction to another is by far the hardest to break. An old Jewish proverb says "If I am I and you are you, then I am and you are. But if I am I because of you, and you are you because of I, then I am not and you are not." Love is equal, no conditions...

Letting go is one of the most painful of human passages and your piece conveys the pain and desire so eloquently.

This is sad. No one is worth self-humiliation, Sue, especially one who is foolish enough to walk away from someone who loves them. This situation, however, sounds more like an obsessive addiction than love, I am afraid. It is an easy trap to fall into, I think many of us have done it. Things start out so perfect and the connection seems so strong, then as time goes on we find that we have to keep modifying who we are to keep the other person happy. Then one day, they realize that you are not the person they once cared for and the relationship ends. We have given up so much of ourself for them that without them we feel empty and lost. With time, you will learn to rediscover yourself and with each day of growth, you will need that other person less and less. This poem screams "I am helpless and hopeless without you." Know it is not the other who makes you feel this way, it is your loss of self. I wish you strength, courage and introspection.
Take care,
Sherry
