Whispers
I hear them when I walk in the room
Voices
Just loud enough to draw attention
How I hate those sounds
The whispers
That I can never quite hear
But never really go away
Are they really there
Or a figment of my imagination
Whispers
So vague yet so damning
Are they there
Or am I crazy
Do people care enough to talk
Or do I over rate my importance
Whispers
Why do I hear them
And why won’t they go away
Enjoyed the way you described the ongoing battle--love katy's ideas and this write. Many, including me, hear them, too...

MMMMM... Sue, don't listen to the brain demons that suggest whispers in a room are about you... OR... next time you perceive someone is whispering about you: take one giant step forward, lift up your head proudly and say, in your loudest voice, "I HEARD THAT!" It unnerves them, indeed. (smile)
Better yet, just ignore them... my son battles daily with paranoid schizophrenia and depression. Knowing and loving him has made me keenly aware of how lucky we are to be able to walk away from our own imaginings and paranoia. It only causes harm if you let it.
I loved the way you used the one-word verses, followed by succinct, straight-forward backup phrasings. katy xox.
I did hear those kind of voices after giving birth to my baby boy...

I took this as the "whispers" you hear from other people when you walk into a room and not the whispers or voices in your mind. People will talk and I usually don't care. ;) Great write as always, Sue ...
Must be a terrible feeling but medication may help those that suffer this mental disease.

I'm deaf so I don't hear voices,LOL,but I do have a few aspects of my personality that vie for attention all the time. All sorts of inner battles can ensue. When you see me talking to myself, you can assume I am mediating. It has nothing to do with insanity. And everything to do with staying sane. :)
I can relate to the cleverly crafted *Paranoia*.
Now this is a write we can all relate to so well. I think everyone unless they are a complete ego maniac has some form of paronoia and you have said what a lot of us (especially writers) feel.
It's just a chemical trick of the brain. One of my mates has these, in her bi-polar.
Ignore them babe, no-matter what they say. hope the Dr can sort it out..
Whispers aren't necessarily always from evil-minded people; they could be from friendly spirits who are trying to convey some message to you; or they could even be from your poetic muse.

I think they would stop if you walked into the room carrying a fully-loaded assault weapon and a glint in your eyes that you meant to use it on the first whisper of a whisper. LOL
Sue, those aren't whispers..it's just the goodness moving about in your soul, to protect you from the bitterness of the world.
Keep listening though, sometimes they send wonderful messages.
