Old memories...

Yesterday I found an old photograph
Must have been taken a million years ago
I would not have been surprised
To see dinosaurs in the background
How could we ever have been that young
I was staring at you with a look on my face
A look of pure hunger
Like I could eat you alive
I remember that feeling vaguely
You were staring at something out of frame
Probably wondering if it were warm enough
To wash your Harley
Or how you could get the beer
You left sitting on the porch step
Something that had nothing to do with love
Unless you count the love
You obviously felt for Harleys and beer
We came together like lightening
The only thing that kept us together
As long as we were
Was the love we BOTH felt for you
It was the one thing we had in common
I loved you
But you loved you even more

This is fantastic. Old photos can tell a truth about one's past. You can tell which parent you were closest to, etc. This is a really good pen, Sue.

Funny, how looking at old photographs can stir such emotions sometimes. A great poem here.

this poem is a snapshot of a photo, capturing a glimpse of times gone by ... no doubt, his love for himself is still the same but the aperture of yours is now in focus ...

powerful poem!

We've all known a few of these! It's just completely impossible to love somebody that loves themselves with that kinda' passion.
I did so enjoy this!

Or he loved that Harley more than himself, I have been there and left it behind...love of a good woman or child is better than any love of an item that can be replaced...Ed

It saddens me so that people miss what could have been.
I'm always loving somebody, never something.

Thnx for sharing Sue. The last two lines of this poem are prophetic for me, cause even though I loved my mother, but she loved herself even more, and never gave me a second glance, except to yell. Even though my world began as a product of DES, my mother could still have accepted me as the girl I always was and will be. I will never find out the answers as to why she comitted me to an institution at 12½ years old, and signed away her parental rights 2 months after being here, when I had done nothing wrong. This is the source of my sorrow, my fears and my nightmares. My questions of why didn't she love me, and what did I do so wrong, will never be answered now. But my sisters, I was once told by her, were worse than I ever thought of being, and yet, she never put them in an institution. The why of that question will never be answered either. All I wanted was my mother's love, and to be her daughter through eternity. But she would not allow that, and after my first sister was born, she didn't need me anymore. This is the answer to why do I cry? Why do I have so much fright? Why do I scream in the stillness of the night? I agree very much with Judy. Everything she said here, is true. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), your very dear friend in Wisconsin and sister in Christ our Lord,

Barbie,
"If I have to...Then I may as well be."

Love is a two-way street, but when only one does the loving, it is emotionally draining...

Unfortunately some men and women do only love themselves and think nothing of who they leave in their wake. And we love them but it is very hard to take when you are the one left.
