Sometimes two people can be together...but not in the same place at all...

Have I ever told you that I’m scared
No, baby, what are you afraid of
Everything
Most things are scary
When you look at them really closely
Maybe that’s it
That’s silly little girl, he said
I’m here
I’ll never let anything happen to you
I sighed
Maybe that’s what I was afraid of
Haven’t you ever been scared
I had to ask him
He never seemed daunted
By the world
Or its horrors
Oh yeah, baby, I’m scared all the time
What of
Monsters, I wondered
No he laughed
No monsters for me, real or imagined
I felt him smile
Reaching out in the dark
There
That’s what I’m afraid of he said
Reaching out for you
And you not being there
I thought about it for a minute
Really scared
Now that I understood

BRILLIANT!! You make this seem so easy and yet it is full of clever subtlety and the words fall onto the page so seemingly effortlessly. Yet I know how difficult it is to achieve such a sense of ease - not through being to able to write it myself, but in the aspiring to! The closure of the last few lines is awesome. Superb write, thank you. Keeping! Kate xx

Sue,

The unknown brings out the fear in us. Who knows what will happen, unless we try? Thought provoking and very well written.

Lonliness in a crowded room, yes, true. Many can relate to this one. Here in India pillow talk has a different meaning. It means a wife telling secrets to her hubby at night, so there is some trouble in the family the next day:) :)

That seems to be the thing and it is an emptiness to
embrace without love being present. Profound! Brava!

I reached out for my mother one day, and I was scared almost to death, because she wasn't there. That was August 14, 1961, my 13th birthday party, spent in a state insitution without my mother being there. That fear has never left me. So I know where this fear comes from. It is an inner fear of the reality of your situation, and it can be devastating. Great write sis, there are a lot of us who can identify. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

Excellent write! Intimacy, the one thing that we need and want, can be a very scary thing indeed! What if we fail our lover's trust? What if they fail us?
