The Older Man

He was seventeen
The year I turned twelve
An older man
With sophistication I only imagined
Until he came around
To visit my brother
Hardly knew I was there
Pigtails and freckles
Not much to appeal
But I dreamed exciting dreams
Of stolen kisses
And forbidden love
Hardly knew what it consisted of
Still I yearned
And moped and hoped
All that summer
And part of the winter to come
Before someone else took his place
In my pre-pubescent affections
And he left my mind
Until I saw him again
At twenty five

Sue, Oh how so many can relate! I too had an older brother that used to bring in his friends to color my dreams! Those were the best nights in my life!
I did so enjoy this!

I used to go all flustered and ecstatic in the presence of one of my father's friends, LOL! But then, I grew up, thank goodness... :0)
This is a very good poem, Sue.

Sis, this is how I felt about a certain boy I knew, but he never knew I love him from a distance. He was my friend, and we got along just fine, but, if he knew I loved him, in my heart and soul, he would have stopped being my friend. So, I told the girls about my dream, and they said it was too bad, that I wasn't born a girl, cause then I could tell him. But,I had to just love him inmy heart and soul, and not in our persons. Thnx for sharing sis, I love every word. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))) your little sister, Barbie

Oh Sue---this brought back memories. My neighbor was older and his name was Johnnie and I stood on my porch and sang "Johnny Angel" at the top of my lungs. He must of thought I was crazy. : )
Thanks for this write.

I think that it is normal to fall for an older more savvy person in which we can dream about. A really neat poem.

Yes, the same story here, Sue except for the last line. To no avail, I flirted shamelessly. So where's "The Older Man, 2" ?

Yes, this reminds me of a particular "man" upon which I had a crush when I was 16 and he was 25. I met him again at 20, and he was ready for a relationship, but I found what was attractive at 16 isn't as exciting at 20! But I enjoyed your write! Memories are great!
