She cries
Sitting alone on a street curb
Her feet in the dirty street
Waiting for the next trick
Or the police to do their job
She knows it will be one or the other
She will either eat tonight
She will get high
Or she’ll sleep in a cell full of women
In a jail somewhere close by
She cries
Not because of one or the other
But because she no longer cares
Which one it is
She’ll eat tonight, get high
Or inhabit that cell close by

That is so very sad, and worse, all to true for many women, excellently expressed.

A well done "slice of life" write. I find it interesting that some find it sympathetic when in fact it is empathetic. C'est la vie.

Sad and lonely night tale told with someone who knows the streets and how cruel they can be to a young girl. My heart is always hoping that yours will someday be relieved.

The site is really into the sympathy thing today. Anyone ever really tried to understand that people tend to do what they WANT to do in, and for, their lives. Sure, sometimes times get tough, but also way too many use that as an excuse for being worthless.

A sorry tale of woe.

A powerful, shattering write--brutally realistic portrayal. Well done, Sue!

Sue, I just posted a poem on the same field - Lady of the Night. I really empathize with them. Its a shame life can be so cruel and tough - and most don't have alternatives.

God bless,

Sandie.

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
