I woke this morning
To the smell of sex
And stale perfume
Looking around at the disarray
I was thankful
That I had a place to sleep
For the twenty dollar bill
On my nightstand
And the thought
That I had lived another day
Never mind that I still smelled
Of his sweat and his body
This stranger
Who last night toiled above me
Striving for a satisfaction
That life has long denied me
Never mind that my body
Still screamed of its addiction
I still thank God
That I lived
At least another day
One day at a time
Is all I can ask for
I gave up all other rights
For a crack pipe
And a life on the street
Truth is
I just gave up
