A one time poet here at AD and I used to go head to head about this word. Here is something I wrote back then and just stumbled across....

I was asked by a gentleman recently for
An explanation of feminism
He assuming I would have an explanation
Of course
I didn’t
I looked up the definition in my dictionary
'A movement to win equal rights
For women'
Nothing new or frightening there
We have the equal right to love and be loved
To have and raise a family
Although I would defer
To men, the right to bear half the children
If possible
It seems only fair to share the joy
And the pain
In most families these days, we share the right
To earn a living
We share the right to pain, loss and bereavement
The right to worry about loved ones
In danger
The right to sleepless nights when our children
Are growing up too quickly
The right to tears and laughter
To sex and aging
To
Death, which comes to us all
Regardless of gender
I refuse to fight battles that have no meaning
There is equality in life
And there is
Unfairness
Between the sexes
As well as in every other aspect of life
But in my own life
I ask only to walk beside the man I love
Not behind him
Not ahead of him
Sharing
Not always equally
But equably
