This piece is evocative, Sue.It resonates with me. Initially brought The Beatles' song, Do You Want To Know A Secret to mind e.g. 'Let me whisper in your ear.'The desire for intimacy does not allow for the voice to be thrown so that others could hear. The offer of love is only for the ear of the object of its desire. We are unfulfilled without love in our lives, a need that is captured in the use of the words and phrases 'need', 'desire' 'every nerve' 'wants' 'come'need to be held'
