Sometimes painful memories come, and writing is a way of purging them. This one is very old, but still vivid...

I just got up and walked out of the room
Words were impossible
All my dreams had just been reduced to rubble
And I had not a word to say
My back was stiff and I felt like a robot
Hardly breathing
I walked away from him and his words
Walked away from that room
The way he was walking away from our lives
Stiff, unresponsive
Divorce
Had that word really come from his lips
I walked into our bedroom
Into my bedroom
And I shut the door
Shutting him on the other side
Outside, where his words had put him
Outside
Where he now belonged
And I crawled into that big double bed
Alone for the first time
In seventeen years
alone

never married but know the feeling
for all that it is worth
when all is gone unknowingly
surprised like sleep in the eye
and just the though brings it all back like yesterday

purge on it is good for the soul

Great write, and a very touching write. I can relate, I too have a few painful memories that occasionally creep back in and disturb my mind and spirit. I listened to a great speaker a few years ago that was explaining how we should pray for our mind and memory to be healed, so the memories wouldn't torment and taunt us. I have followed his advice and it does seem that the memory occurs less....again, great write. Happy holidays, wishing you the warmest, merriest, and a safe holiday.

A remarkable poem, Sue -- it's often difficult to even write a poem about something so painful, but you did it well, no one could have written it better. My favorite lines that say it all ... are:
"And I shut the door
Shutting him on the other side
Outside, where his words had put him ..."

Excellent write, my friend.

CJ

It is hard when a belief especaially one such as a love or a marraige ends and sometimes we see it coming, other times it is dropped on our laps like a piece fo mail. Either way the memory is so overwhelming it lingers long after the love is gone.
