I love the way the poem doesn't repeat in the last lines but winds back on itself....like something woven. Hope that makes sense. JM

Excellent writing, Sue. Your poem is full of truth and it's real -- I, too, have Cherokee blood, but on my maternal grandmother's side. I'm amazed at how the Native Americans have been treated over the years. It's shameful, absolutely shameful.

I have a small bit of Native American blood in me (although I don't look it, my sisiters do) and this poem is an excellent reminder of what was lost and endured.

What a lovely tribute to our ancestors...The Trail of Tears was such a sad and tragic event that will be forever etched in the hearts of many. I too have Cherokee within my veins...I am very passionate about my ancestors, enjoyed this!

Gorgeous write, Sue. I live among Native people and so many still live by the tribal laws, some still on reservation land. They have learned so much about life through the stories of their ancestors.
